In 2018, Hannah Ajala looked around her department at the BBC and counted the Black faces in the room: two cleaners, two security guards, and herself. That moment became We Are Black Journos (WABJ) — a community built by and for Black journalists, in an industry where a landmark study found the lack of diversity has been a serious, unaddressed problem for decades.
