The Fast Track: What separates good pitches from unforgettable ones? (Vol. 4)

Welcome to another edition of The Fast Track, our SOAR monthly newsletter, where we share tips, insights, and fresh ideas to supercharge your business growth. This month, we’re sharing storytelling secrets that transform pitches, the mindset shifts that create champions, and the business strategies behind 8-figure exits.

The storytelling secrets that turn good pitches into unforgettable ones

What separates a good pitch from a great one? Adrienne Adhami, Author, Podcaster and Co-Founder of Part Two Agency, shared her insights with our Launchpad finalists at a private pitching workshop. Three ideas stood out to us:

🎯 Create one memorable moment: Make sure you’re clear on the one thing you want the audience to remember and share about your pitch. Everything else should support this message.

🧠 Pass the 8-80 rule: If you can’t explain your business to both an 8 year old and an 80 year old in the same way, then you’re overcomplicating the message. Simplicity is a superpower in communication.

📚 Tell a complete story: Every winning pitch should have three acts: the problem that existed, the solution you’re building, and the future you’re creating. If you miss any part, then your story falls flat.

The mindset shift that turned potential disaster into Olympic Gold

At the Birmingham Black Business Show 2025, Denise Lewis shared how a career-threatening achilles injury, before the Sydney Olympics, led to a powerful discovery: “My body was not physically up to the challenge, but you can always train your mind.”

To overcome injury and secure Olympic Gold, she relied on three mindset strategies:

  • Silence the negative chatter: Recognise when your brain is telling you something won’t work and remember you have the power to choose a different narrative.

  • Focus on what you can control today: Rather than obsessing over what could have been, put your energy into the actions that can move you forward today.

  • Recognise the power to reframe: Find the opportunity in the challenge and use it as fuel to power through.

    • What setbacks have put you on the path to success?

The cheat codes to building a multi-million pound business

Serial entrepreneur Timothy Armoo shared 8 weird lessons from 8-figure exists at the Birmingham Black Business Show. Three of his ideas challenge how most founders approach scaling:

  • Great systems outperform great people: Processes might be boring, but with the right systems, success becomes inevitable rather than accidental.

  • Market timing beats everything else: Launch too early and you’ll exhaust your resources educating a market that isn’t ready. Too late, and you’re fighting for space in a saturated market.

  • Sell to rich people first: Targeting customers who can pay a premium price consistently is a quick route to sustainable growth.

    • What’s your own business success cheat code?
