Daniel Meikle
Award-winning telecoms and technology leader with 30+ years’ experience, Daniel Meikle’s career began on the railways as an apprentice engineer with British Rail. Those early years built a practical, systems engineering mindset—clear requirements, robust assurance and disciplined change control—that still underpins how he leads today.
Across three decades in telecoms and technology, Daniel has become known for turning complexity into clarity and insight into action. He is a Black Talent Awards winner for engineering contribution in the Telecommunications and Energy category, and has also received recognition at the Power of a Man Awards for business leadership.
Daniel is now Head of Reliability & Obsolescence at Telent, leading reliability engineering, lifecycle strategy and technology performance governance across large-scale communications estates spanning transport, critical national infrastructure and major public-sector environments. He supports delivery for an estate valued in excess of £500m, keeping complex, customer-facing and safety-critical systems resilient, supportable and future-ready.
Known for out-of-the-box thinking that stays practical, Daniel champions condition-based and event-led maintenance, using monitoring signals, performance trends and structured incident learning to anticipate issues before they impact users. He designs engineered feedback loops that improve evidence capture, accelerate triage, and ensure repeat problems trigger root-cause investigation—not repeat attendance. Crucially, the insight generated is used to develop new project solutions, inform system design choices, and drive value-based engineering decisions that improve outcomes, maintainability and whole-life cost.
Daniel’s eye is also firmly on the future. He is exploring how agentic AI and autonomous decision-making will influence technology’s evolution—particularly in monitoring, diagnostics, workflow automation and reliability engineering—so organisations can adopt new capability safely and with clear benefit.
Alongside technical leadership, Daniel is a visible champion for equity, equality and inclusion. A founding member of Telent’s ED&I Steering Group, he helped shape ED&I strategy and Social Values policy, and built lasting partnerships—including Telent sponsorship of UK Black Business Week for the last three years running and the CCC Awards for the last two years.
Outside of work, Daniel is an entrepreneur and Director of First Choice Caribbean Hut, winner of Best Food & Hospitality at the Royal Borough of Greenwich Business Awards (2020). Levi Roots praised the team’s “absolutely brilliant” flavours and “visually beautiful” presentation.
