Karen Emelu
Karen is a multi-award-winning community builder, ecosystem strategist, entrepreneur, and international speaker working at the intersection of technology, entrepreneurship, culture, and economic participation. She is the Founder of Black Girls in Tech (BGIT), a global community of over 45,000 members advancing access, visibility, and opportunities for underrepresented women across technology and innovation ecosystems. She is also the CEO of Butta Health, an AI-powered healthcare technology company focused on transforming patient intake, clinical workflows, and healthcare operations.Through her leadership across both organisations, Karen connects technology, innovation, talent, and institutions across international markets, with a particular focus on African innovation, emerging technologies, women-led entrepreneurship, and community-driven growth. She has collaborated with and spoken for organisations including HSBC, Mastercard, Google, Expedia, the Financial Times, Imperial College London, King’s College London, and the University of Cambridge.
