Marcel De Jonghe
I am the Founder and Managing Director of The Belonging Lab, a consultancy I created to design systems, campaigns, and delivery models that drive inclusion-focused transformation. My career has been shaped by a commitment to strategic vision and operational rigor, and I’ve become known for building frameworks that blend evidence, lived experience and accessible design to create measurable change across sectors.
A pivotal chapter in my journey is my work with Birmingham City Council, the largest local authority in Europe. Serving one of the most diverse populations in the UK, I lead equity, diversity, and wellbeing programmes that resonate across communities with vastly different needs and experiences. From designing anti-racism workshops to piloting mentoring initiatives, I help spark dialogue and embed practices that shifted organisational culture. Working at this scale has taught me how to balance systemic design with human-centred nuance, ensuring that inclusion efforts were both strategic and deeply relevant to everyday lives.
One of my proudest achievements has been developing Mutual Mentoring as a fully packaged product - complete with templates, facilitator guides, and evaluation metrics - refined for scale and ease of adoption. This innovation has been piloted across industries, offering organisations a repeatable model for embedding equity into everyday practice.
I see strong alignment between my work and the tech sector, where systems thinking and digital tools are increasingly central to organisational change. I’ve crafted interactive questionnaires, and reflection exercises that leverage technology to foster dialogue around privilege, identity and belonging. My campaigns often integrate multi-channel strategies, data-driven storytelling and visual design, ensuring resonance across diverse platforms. By combining human-centred design with digital accessibility, I demonstrate how technology can be harnessed ethically to amplify inclusion and wellbeing.
Outside of my professional life, I am a proud father and passionate advocate for wellbeing. I try and bring warmth, care, and intentionality into my personal life, championing practices that sustain balance and resilience.
Through The Belonging Lab, I continue to scale impact by offering workshops, digital products, consulting and speaking engagements to organisations seeking real transformation. My long-term vision is to advocate for ethical, transparent use of AI and technology in decision-making, ensuring that innovation serves equity and belonging at every level.
I am MD of an EDI&B Consultancy company that helps both private and public organisations get under the skin of Belonging. I am due to be a guest host on an international Podcast with Dr Shawna Gann about being of mixed heritage. Season 6 of “Our True Colors” will be shared in 2026.
