Ony is a digital leader that is passionate about how technology transforms organisations. He excels at crafting practical digital strategies and bringing them to life in varied businesses. With a diverse background in consulting and industry roles, covering roles from vision setting to execution, and with experience in customer facing roles in energy, retail, and banking, he has deep expertise and brings strong customer focus in all that he does. 

Ony holds a Computer Science degree from Nottingham University (2003) and a Masters in E-Business and Innovation from Birkbeck (2008). He started his career as a software developer in Accenture and has since performed various consulting roles across the health, government and insurance sectors before his role at BP.

Ony is a senior-level leader at BP. Since joining BP in 2012, he has held various roles across technology, including portfolio management, programme delivery, and strategy. Currently Ony leads a programme that is transforming the trading business of his organisation, with the aim of building capabilities that enhance competitive edge and digital capability – to enable better responsiveness to the market and wider environment by gaining more insights from the data it holds and leveraging the power of AI to truly transform and enable value growth.

Key achievements and contributions to the tech sector:

  • Defined a digital strategy for his organisation that transformed the way they operate, ensuring more of our employees do technology, reducing our costs on third parties
  • Deployed the first tablet PC solution to the NHS ambulance service
  • Developed a framework for remediating aged technology assets depending on their criticality to the business, saving his organisation millions in operational costs
  • Defining standards for sharing education course information across education providers whilst working at the Department for Education allowing for national education provision
  • Designed and piloted a road pricing scheme for the Department of Education paving the way for Pay as You Go Driving schemes such as insurance

Outside my main role

Ony cares about making a difference, he is currently a trustee for a charity that supports young people in the care system. Whilst at the charity Ony has reshaped the strategy and mission, this has helped the charity grow in both reach and impact to be one of the most influential charities in this space, making a real difference for the lives of care experienced young people, and transforming policy in this sector. 

Ony is a mentor for students and young professionals in technology and over the years has been involved in various mentoring programmes from prior university and employers. Ony has also contributed to Black Business Week over the past few years, including appearing as a panel speaker and contributing to mentoring events.

Ony is a father of two and he is committed to balancing career growth with family and ensures he makes time to enjoy every moment he has together.
